The diagnosis process is simple
Speak to a scheduling coordinator, fill out a questionnaire about your child, and a clinician will arrange a series of virtual tests customized to your child’s needs. Tests will focus on three key areas:
Play-based activities
Social engagement
Cognitive development

Complete a confidential online screener

If you qualify, an intake coordinator will contact you to schedule a comprehensive evaluation with one of our expert diagnosticians
Step 3
The evaluation consists of a minimum of 2 virtual visits with you and your child from the comfort of your home
The first visit is a detailed interview and assessment of your child. This includes a core set of activities and assessments utilizing structured play and observation. This does not require any special skills or abilities from your child. (Est. time: 2-4 hours)
The final visit will include a review of a comprehensive written diagnostic evaluation and treatment recommendations 2 weeks after your first visit. (Est. time: 1 hour)

Once the previous steps are complete, you will be provided a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and treatment recommendations
FAQ's
Is a virtual autism assessments as accurate as an in-person assessment?
Research shows that virtual assessments are just as accurate as those conducted in-person. Virtual, in-home assessments can provide a more precise representation of a child’s developmental stage by facilitating observations in the comfort of their own home and in an environment that is safe and familiar.
How is autism diagnosed at Positive Development (PD)?
We have a team of diagnosticians with expertise in evidence- based evaluations of autism spectrum disorders. They use a combination of assessments and observations along with a detailed medical, social and developmental history and review of records to determine whether or not your child is on the spectrum.
How do I know if the assessment process at PD is right for my child?
Our team will review your intake packet and specific autism screening results to determine if we are the best fit for your child's evaluation.
What does an autism assessment entail?
At PD, our telemedicine process is streamlined and convenient. We gather background information, complete standardized interviews, review submission of parent supplied videos (optional), observe your child in free and guided play/activities, and complete additional autism specific assessments. Once the process is complete, our diagnostician will meet with the parents to explain the findings and provide a detailed report
How long is an assessment?
Typically the first virtual visit is 1-3 hours, followed by a one-hour follow up.
Is a clinical ASD diagnosis required to start developmental therapy?
Yes, an autism diagnosis is required for services. Often, insurance companies require a formal diagnosis for therapy coverage.
